Life can be challenging. Sometimes, we all need someone to help us navigate through problems and issues we can’t face alone. Counseling can be a great place for you to tell your story and let yourself be fully known in a safe, non-threatening atmosphere. Maybe you’re stuck, wondering why relationships aren’t working for you? Perhaps you’ve been struggling with an addiction, or you just can’t seem to understand why life is so difficult and need a fresh perspective on what may be holding you back?
If that’s you, individual counseling may be just what you need. Our approach is client-centered and utilizes psychological techniques combined with Judeo-Christian values. We work with clients of all ages, and have experience treating a number of issues, including: Adjustment Disorders, Anxiety, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), Bi-Polar Disorder, Depression, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Relationship Challenges, Substance Abuse, and Addictions.
IHF specializes in Sexual/Gender Identity Affirming Therapy, and works with clients and families all over the world who experience sexual and/or gender identity conflicts. Unfortunately, people of faith often feel judged in their places of worship when speaking about their sexuality, gender, and sexual identity issues. We will work to help you resolve internal and external issues that are getting in the way of your ability to embrace your sexual and/or gender identity; whether that is helping you work through issues with family members, friends, and loved ones, or working through inner conflicts in order to find peace. Whatever your struggle, you will feel safe to process your pain, hurt, and frustration with the Institute for Healthy Families.

The Institute for Healthy Families believes an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure, so counseling for families is focused on early intervention with a family systems approach. Someone once said: “You can choose your friends, but you can’t choose your family.” The reality is, we all experience hurt in our families of origin, and no family is perfect. Family counseling is an opportunity to experience emotional intimacy with each other in a safe, non-judgmental environment. IHF helps family members dialogue with each other, develop empathy for each other’s struggles, resolve long-standing conflicts, and come to a greater place of healing and harmony in their relationships. Family therapy ranges from one-hour sessions, to one-day intensives, to multiple-day family healing weekends.
We believe that children and youth benefit when they experience strong attachments with parents, families, schools, places of worship, and healthy communities. Unfortunately, our religious families and communities often place a high value on good behavior, rather than helping children learn how to process their emotions in a healthy way. Our philosophy on family counseling includes developing strong parent and family attachments, healthy and open communication, and an understanding of how emotions and feelings impact our lives and help us adjust to life’s many changes.

Learning that your child is gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning (LGBTQ) or struggling with unwanted same-sex attractions (SSA) can be frightening and confusing for parents and families. We have a year-long online paretning class that helps mothers and fathers work together to understand and support their child.
When we first married, we were filled with hope for the futue and our hearts were filled with optimism. Over time, however, some ofus found that little struggles turned into bigger struggles and we became aware that we were not equipped to respond to the needs or demands of our spouses and children. Our intensive family healing seminars are conducted in your home and provide an opportunity to heal and repair wounds that have accumulated over the years.
We offer a variety of healing retreats ordered to helping clients and their families understand and heal the wounds that stand in the way of growth.
The Institute for Healthy Families subscribes to the therapeutic guidelines as put forth by the American Psychological Association in working with lesbians, gays, and bisexuals.
